To help you out here is the Cornish words and phrases you’ll hear in Cornwall this holiday! If you are lucky enough to have spent anytime in Cornwall you’ll have heard some words that are distinctly Cornish.

Ansom- This is a word every Cornish local will use on a daily basis, it’s a term for when you really like something. If it’s ‘Proper’ Ansom then it’s really special.

Giss on!- stop talking absolute rubbish

Dreckly- Dreckly means that something will be done directly. However the difference is doing something ‘dreckly’ can take ages, no time limit!

Proper job- Another word uses by the locals almost on a daily basis, this means when something is going well, it’s perfect it’s a ‘proper job’.

I’m rufazrats- I’m hungover!

Wasson- A Cornish persons greeting, hello, hi, good evening. A much quicker way of greeting someone you know.

Up North- Basically anywhere over and beyond the Tamar Bridge in Plymouth.

Heller – a naughty child or person, what a little Heller!
